September, 2019 | Informal Learning Initiative
William Penn Foundation has renewed and expanded the Informal Learning Initiative, a network of 24 local organizations collaborating to connect the city’s museums, science centers, and art institutions with neighborhoods across Philadelphia. The Clay Studio is excited to be part of this Initiative to bring new, engaging learning experiences to families with young children — because learning can happen everywhere, not just in classrooms.
We will work with our partners at the Cecil B. Moore Library and the Kensington Library to engage children ages 3-8 and their families in Kensington and North Philadelphia. Our free, art-based “Clay, Play, Read” program will use clay and creative play geared toward developing children’s early literacy skills — a critical factor for evey youngster's future success.
Sessions will be held at each library and a third community location, and the annual community day in South Kensington known as “Clay Fest” will begin to feature family literacy programs. For more information, contact Megan Millman at 215-925-3453 or megan@theclaystudio.org.

- PNC Arts Alive
-
PNC Arts Alive is a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative of the PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. The goal of PNC Arts Alive is to help area residents gain access to the arts and to help arts organizations expand and engage audiences.
We’re grateful to PNC for believing in the work we do to promote the ceramic arts in our community and for providing us with the funding through PNC Arts Alive that makes the Hands On Clay program possible. To be selected as a grantee is a real honor, placing us in an elite group of innovative thinkers with the common goal of increasing arts access.
