"I was always fascinated by clay objects. As a child growing up in the Czech republic, I collected ceramic pieces from different artists.When I began to work with clay, my fascination grew when I realized that the material always revealed new challenges and possibilities for self expression.
Although my approach is intuitive, my objective is to resolve the tension between creating objects that are universally simple and finding a language of personal imagery. I use circles and lines in endless combinations to achieve that end.
The simple and complex, circles and lines enable me to explore new artistic possibilities each day.
Not knowing where it is all coming from, just being an observer as anyone else is.

Stepanka Horalkova was born in the Czech Republic and moved to New York City
in 1995. She is a self-taught ceramic artist, focusing her attention on working with porcelain. Her work is all hand build, mainly using slabs and ranges from standing vessels, standing abstract forms, wall pillow forms, wall sculptures and functional pieces.
She employs earthy oxides, stains and glazes to compliment her simple forms and whimsical drawings.
