My work is functional and sculptural. I love to generate ideas with storytelling—both traditional and fanciful. I've reimagined the Statue of Liberty, Billy Penn on Philadelphia's City Hall, Ballet dancers as rabbits on roller skates, the community of pigeons outside my loft windows, and the brownstones of my daughter's Brooklyn neighborhood. I throw, hand build, sculpt, and draw on my work using a range of decorating and glazing techniques. My pieces include dinnerware, candlesticks, butter dishes, pitchers, and bowls, as well as whatever (large and small) forms fit the need of the specific work. My commissions include a mosaic for the entrance of Philadelphia Project H.O.M.E., a large sculptural fountain for the Red Tettemer Agency, as well as many others. Recent shows were at Gallery 1026, the Philadelphia International Airport and the Free Library of Philadelphia. I have participated in Small Favors at the Clay Studio, as well as group shows.
I graduated from Philadelphia College of the Arts (now University of the Arts) in Philadelphia with a BFA in ceramics in 1967. My teachers included Bill Daley and Julia Brown. For many years, I taught Ceramics at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr. I have been a member of the Clay Studio since 1995.
