Celebrate clay and community with a fun day of muddy festivities near our soon-to-be new home in South Kensington! Join us for hands-on activities for all ages, wheel throwing, a group sculpture extravaganza, artist demonstrations, an ice cream social, screen printing totes & clay, music, dance, yoga, food & more! 11 AM - 4 PM: Group Sculpting
Who are the People in your Neighborhood? Help turn a 1,000 pounds of clay into a playful, collaborative work of art inspired by the South Kensington neighborhood and your hopes for the future of our city.
11 AM - 4 PM: Guest Artist Demo with Ibrahim Said
Watch and learn from guest artist, Ibrahim Said, as he creates a large-scale vessel on the pottery wheel. Ibrahim is Egyptian born and now based in North Carolina. Learn about his process, background, and the inspiration he finds in Islamic culture.
11 AM - 4 PM: Wheel Throwing 101
Try your hand at throwing on the potter’s wheel under the expert guidance of our teaching artists. Decorate your creation and The Clay Studio will have it ready for you to pick up in a few weeks.
11 AM /11:30 AM: Clay Yoga
Join clay and certified youth yoga teacher, Johanna Roebas for 30 minutes of family yoga inspired by creativity and clay. Bring your own towel!
11 AM - 1 PM: Clay Necklaces
Create your own necklace with beads and clay pendants made by teaching artist Nitza Rosario.
11 AM - 1 PM: Screen Print Clay Coasters
Learn to screen print on clay with teaching artist, Dominique Ellis and explore the design possibilities.
11 AM - 2 PM: Clay Animation
Create and animate clay characters using the art of stop motion. One person or a group can create characters, a story line, and bring your creations to life.
11 AM-2 PM: Photo Booth
Have your photo taken by teaching artists from the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center with your favorite clay props!
11 AM-3 PM: Face Painting with Golden Brownie Art
12 PM – 3 PM: Raku Firing
Glaze a piece of pottery made by local artist, Dylan Muller, and then watch the magic happen as it is Raku fired right before your eyes and available to be taken home with you that day! Quantities are limited.
12:30 PM/1:30 PM: Family Line Dancing
Take a break from your clay projects and learn to line dance!
12 PM-2 PM: Share a Handmade Meal
Enjoy food from local restaurants and share stories while using handmade dishes that you can take home after your lunch! Quantities of food and dishes are limited.
2 PM - 4 PM: Silk Screening with Second State Press
Learn how to screen print your own tote bag under the guidance of teaching artists from Second State Press.
2 PM: Los Bomberos De la Calle performance
2 PM-4 PM: A Hands-On Ice Cream Social
Decorate a bowl with decals inspired by the neighborhood! Each bowl is made by local artist, Sasha Barrett, and The Clay Studio will glaze, fire, and have your bowl ready for you to pick up in a few weeks. Then enjoy ice cream provided by Franklin Fountain. Ice Cream & Bowl quantities are limited.
