ALL-DAY ACTIVITIES 12 PM - 4 PM
12 PM - 4 PM: Guest Artist Project with Ibrahim Said
Learn about Islamic patterning from featured artist Ibrahim Said.
12 PM - 4 PM: Guest Artist Project with George Rodriguez
Leave your mark on The Clay Studio! Make a tile designed by local artist George Rodriguez that will be installed in a permanent installation.
12 PM - 4 PM: Screen Printing with Second State Press
Learn how to screen print a tote bag under the guidance of teaching artists from our neighbors at Second State Press.
12 PM - 4 PM: Raku Firing with Mobile Raku
Led by Mobile Raku Artist Brett Thomas, you will glaze a piece of pottery made by one of our in-house artists and then watch the magic happen as it is Raku fired right before your eyes and available to be taken home with you that day! Quantities are limited.
12 PM - 4 PM: Music by DJ Aura
DJ Aura will be keeping us all making and moving with her joyful mixes throughout the day.
12 PM – 4 PM: Clay Animation
Create and animate clay characters using the art of stop motion. One person or a group can create characters and a storyline and bring your creations to life.
12 PM – 4 PM: Pottery Unplugged
Try our people-powered pottery wheel. Find a partner to pedal power the bicycle wheel while you try your hand at throwing on the pottery wheel!
12 PM – 4 PM: Photo Booth
Grab your favorite clay props and strike a pose!
12 PM – 4 PM: Group Sculpt
Help turn 1,000 pounds of clay into an inspiring collaborative work of art inspired by Roberto Lugo’s new mural of Tarik Trotter of the Roots on the south side of the new building.
DROP-IN ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS
12 PM - 2 PM: Clay Necklaces with Nitza Walesca
Create a necklace with beads and clay pendants made by teaching artist Nitza Walesca. Quantities are limited.
12 PM – 2 PM: Fish Dishes
Make a splash with this aquatic-inspired clay project. Add texture and color to this fun form, and The Clay Studio will glaze, fire, and have it ready for pick up in a few weeks.
12 PM- 2 PM: Wheel Throwing 101
Try your hand at throwing on the potter’s wheel under the expert guidance of our teaching artists.
2 PM-4 PM: A Hands-On Ice Cream Social
Transform a clay slab into a special bowl designed by you! The Clay Studio will glaze, fire, and have your bowl ready for you to pick up in a few weeks. Then enjoy ice cream provided by Weckerly's Ice Cream. Ice Cream & bowl quantities are limited.
2 PM – 4 PM: Sgraffito Tiles
Express yourself! Make and decorate a ceramic tile using colored slips and the sgraffito (scratching) method.
2 PM – 4 PM - Clay Owls
This project is a hoot! Make your own adorable ceramic owl out of air-dry clay.
