Benefit Auction
Aug 28th - Oct 3rd, 2021
Bidding Ends October 2 at 9pm - Bid Here
Led by a generous gift of important works from Helen Drutt’s collection, A Proper Send Off is an exhibition and benefit auction that will celebrate The Clay Studio’s last months in its current home at 137-139 N. 2nd Street. Later this fall we will move into our newly constructed home at 1425 N. American Street. The proceeds from this sale will directly benefit the purchase of display cases for The Clay Studio Collection, allowing the works of many talented artists who have been part of The Clay Studio for nearly 50 years to be on permanent display in our new facility.
In addition to generous gifts from Helen Drutt, other donors to the exhibition include Kathryn Narrow, Barbara Horowitz, Brian Harding, Avalie Saperstein, and Larry & Mickey Magid. Helen Drutt Gallery, Philadelphia, was one of the most important Craft Art galleries for over three decades. Not only did Drutt bring international artists to Philadelphia, and the US, she placed Philadelphia artists on the world stage, often launching and supporting their careers. Helen Drutt is one of the reasons Philadelphia experienced a Craft Art renaissance in the 1970’s, which in part led to the formation of The Clay Studio itself. We are grateful for her continued generosity, and her tireless work to support Craft and The Clay Studio over the years.
Notable works donated by Helen Drutt include Open Vessel by William (Bill) Daley, Monkey Ball, a large scale ceramic and fiber sculpture by the late Lizbeth Stewart, and a large Vessel by Nicholas Arroyave Portela. Other highlights in clude an Iceberg Triptych by Paula Winokur, donated by Avalie Saperstein, in honor of her sister, the late ceramic artist, Elyse Saperstein.
The exhibition of auction works opens in The Clay Studio Gallery at 137-139 N. 2nd Street on August 28, 2021, and will be on view through Saturday, October 2, when the auction will close. The auction website is hosted on GiveSmart.com, and the link will be posted when the show opens so that you can register to bid.
