The Clay Studio presents an exhibition of work by 19 former resident artists, opening Friday, January 28. Since its inception in 1974, The Clay Studio has functioned as an organization where emerging ceramic artists could maintain working space as well as exchange working ideas and values, After several years at The Clay Studio artists generally leave to set up studios of their own, as have Jill Bonovitz and Ken Vavrek and to establish reputations for their work. Some are the recipients of the coveted National Endowment for the Arts Craft Fellowship, as Kirk Mangus this year. Others, like Claire Rodgers, establish successful pottery schools of their own. The work, both functional and sculptural, represents the progress of 19 people since their departure from The Clay Studio.
