FAO Schwarz Fellow

Email: emilylu@theclaystudio.org

Emily Lu is a 2024-2026 FAO Schwarz Fellow, working to integrate SEL into the Claymobile curriculum. Through her studies of education theory and hands-on classroom experience, Emily has become dedicated to "education as the practice of freedom," as defined by bell hooks. She brings this love of freedom to her work in classrooms, creating joyful and empowering experiences through the arts.

Emily received her B.A. in Education Studies from Wellesley, College, where she developed her passions for working with youth. Her studies led her to form a critical pedagogy based on social justice and radical love, which has guided her work with children in a variety of settings across several cities on the East Coast.

When she is not working with the Claymobile, Emily can be found exploring the beautiful outdoor spaces of West Philly and trying to make friends with all the outdoor cats in her neighborhood.
